A call to action (CTA) asks the user to take a specific next step, such as “Book a free consultation”, “Add to basket” or “Get a quote”. It is usually a button or a prominent link.
Where CTAs are used
- On your website and landing page
- In Google Ads and Meta Ads
- In newsletters and emails
- At the end of blog posts and videos
How to write a strong CTA
- Start with a verb and say exactly what happens next
- State the benefit, for example “Get your free audit”
- Reduce friction with words such as “no obligation” or “in 2 minutes”
- One main action per page, not five equally loud buttons
Design and placement
The button should stand out in colour, be large enough to tap and be visible without scrolling. On longer pages, repeat the CTA after key sections. A/B testing shows which version delivers the highest conversion rate.
